German Red Cross Since 2004, the Red Cross in the district of Euskirchen is acting as an active partner of the Eifel National Park. After opening Vogelsang in January 2006, the Red Cross was on duty on site and since Juliy 2009 has its own building there. The Red Cross support point Vogelsang, the former belgian military building “Transit 59” was partly renovated by voluntary Red Cross members and extended to an educational centre. Here, seminars, meetings and educational events for young people are taking place on a regional aa well as on a national level. Furthermore, during weekends and holidays, from May to October, an ambulance is available to assure the safety of the visitors of the Eifel National Park and vogelsang ip. The self supported building offers 26 sleeping facilities, two seminar and two dining rooms, two rooms for workshops, two office rooms, one material room and an out-area for group activities. In cooperation with the fellow site partners, the offerings of the Red Cross house for the education of young people and about nature and environment is supposed to be extended continuously and expanded to be a constant institution. Perspectively, the GRC is thinking about the foundation of a museum of the international Red Cross movement.
